Channing Tatum is back as Gambit in the highly anticipated Avengers: Doomsday, and he’s already giving fans plenty to be excited about.

Speaking with Variety, Tatum admitted that the scale of the movie is unlike anything he’s experienced before. “When I say a huge movie, it’s like an understatement. I don’t have a word big enough,” he said. “I’m not good enough with words to explain how big this movie will be. It’s going to blow people’s minds.”

While fans have been speculating about Ryan Reynolds returning as Deadpool, Tatum stayed cautious. “I think he’s busy enough. He’s got like 15,000 jobs,” he told Variety.

He also expressed deep gratitude toward Reynolds for his support in bringing him into the MCU. “My buddy Ryan, I’ll be forever [grateful]. If his kids ever needed a kidney, I’d give it. He takes care of his people, and I’ll always be there for him,” Tatum said.

Tatum previously revealed a hint of a major action scene, teasing that Gambit will face off against Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom. Talking about what makes Gambit unique, the actor explained, “He likes women, he smokes, he drinks. He’s not just a save-the-world kind of guy — we need those, but we need contrast.” Tatum said Marvel executives worked with him to perfect Gambit’s accent, and he decided “I’m not gonna go full Cajun.”

The Russo brothers want Gambit to have humor but also carry weight when the story calls for it. “When Gambit gets serious — when he drops the Mardi Gras mask — things do matter,” Tatum noted.

Filming in London involved long, demanding days, but Tatum said the experience was rewarding. He also spoke about balancing work with family life, sharing that he considered stepping away because of his daughter, “I wasn’t sure if I wanted to do ‘Avengers,’ because I was going to have to be gone, but I was like — it’s OK. She’s going into middle school now.”

Tatum first introduced Gambit in 2024’s Deadpool & Wolverine, where the character quickly became a fan favorite.

He now reprises the role alongside X-Men legends like Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, Alan Cumming, Rebecca Romijn, and James Marsden. Tatum has a long history with the character. He was originally attached to a solo Gambit movie and even co-directed parts of it with Reid Carolin, but the project was shelved after Disney acquired Fox in 2019.

Fans have responded with excitement at the news of Gambit’s return, praising Tatum’s energy and charisma. Social media is buzzing with speculation about how he will fit into the larger Avengers storyline, especially after hints of his showdown with Doctor Doom.

It seems Avengers: Doomsday is shaping up to be a massive and thrilling installment for both Marvel and X-Men fans alike. Tatum’s enthusiasm and promise of mind-blowing moments have only added to the anticipation. What do you think of Gambit returning to the MCU? Share your thoughts in the comments.
