Brittany Snow and Malin Akerman Back as Netflix Renews ‘The Hunting Wives’ for Season 2
Netflix has ordered a second season of The Hunting Wives, the drama that became one of the streamer’s biggest hits this summer. The show, starring Brittany Snow and Malin Akerman, will see both actors return for the new chapter.
Creator and showrunner Rebecca Cutter shared her excitement about continuing the story. “I’m so excited to write these amazing characters again, and I can’t wait to take the audience on another sexy, twisted, batshit crazy ride through Maple Brook,” she said.
The series, adapted from May Cobb’s bestselling novel, was originally produced for Starz. When Lionsgate and Starz separated earlier this year, the show moved to Netflix, where it quickly climbed the charts.
After its July 21 release, The Hunting Wives stayed in the Top 10 for five weeks and became the most-watched streaming series in the U.S. The success of the show also boosted sales of Cobb’s book, which saw a massive spike in demand after the premiere.
Season two will continue where the story left off. According to Netflix, Sophie (played by Snow) and Margo (played by Akerman) will begin the season at odds, but soon find themselves tangled in new secrets and dangerous games. The streaming service teased the central question: “Are they the hunters or the hunted?”
Other returning cast members include Jaime Ray Newman, Dermot Mulroney, Evan Jonigkeit, and George Ferrier. Cutter, along with Lionsgate Television and 3 Arts Entertainment, will continue to produce the series.
When talking about her vision, Cutter explained that she never saw the story as a one-season run. “Even when it was at Starz, it was never, in my mind, a limited series,” she told The Hollywood Reporter. She also admitted she could see herself writing more seasons because of how much fun she has with the characters.

Cutter also addressed the buzz around the show’s themes, which mix scandal, sex, and cultural clashes in a small Texas town. “I’ve heard some people say that the show is part of this new mandate to make red-state content, and that wasn’t what it was. I mean, it was for horny middle-aged women,” she said.
Brittany Snow and Malin Akerman leaned into the cliffhanger ending of season one when they announced the renewal online, sparking even more fan excitement.
