Quentin Tarantino Names His Pick for the Greatest Actor of His Generation
Quentin Tarantino once praised Chris Pine as one of the best actors of his generation. During an episode of The Rewatchables, the director spoke about the 2010 action film Unstoppable and singled out Pine for his performance.
Unstoppable is a disaster action movie based on the real-life CSX 8888 incident, when a runaway train carrying hazardous chemicals sped uncontrolled across Ohio in 2001.
Pine starred alongside Denzel Washington as one of the men tasked with stopping the train before disaster struck. Tarantino noted that, in his view, Pine stands out among actors of his age.
“Now, to me, of the actors of his age, he’s hands down my favourite – of that group, of that era, of those guys,” Tarantino said. He added that while Pine has delivered strong performances in other films, he feels the actor has yet to take the next big leap in his career since Unstoppable.
Chris Pine has built a diverse career since his breakout role as James T. Kirk in the Star Trek reboot series. He has appeared in major franchises like Wonder Woman, taken on dramatic roles in films such as Hell or High Water, and shown his comedic side in movies like 21 Jump Street and Rise of the Guardians.
Pine is praised for his versatility, seamlessly moving between action, drama, and comedy, and has earned a reputation as one of Hollywood’s most reliable leading men.
Tarantino’s praise highlights the respect Pine commands within the industry. The director’s admiration is particularly notable given Tarantino’s reputation for working with some of the most iconic actors in Hollywood history.
