Big Star Rerpotedly in Talks to Star in Ryan Coogler’s The X-Files Reboot
Ryan Coogler’s new take on The X-Files might soon have its first major cast member. According to Nexus Point News, actress Danielle Deadwyler is in talks to join the project as one of the lead investigators.
Her character would reportedly work alongside a male partner as the pair takes on unusual and mysterious cases.
The reboot has been in the works since 2023, with Coogler attached as writer, executive producer, and possibly director. While the original series creator, Chris Carter, is not involved in producing the new version, he has met with Coogler to discuss the project and offer insight into the world he created decades ago.
The original X-Files became one of television’s most iconic sci-fi shows when it debuted in 1993. It ran for nine seasons before ending in 2002, then returned for two more seasons in 2016.
The show’s success also led to two feature films: The X-Files (1998) and The X-Files: I Want to Believe (2008). David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson starred as FBI agents Fox Mulder and Dana Scully, who investigated unexplained phenomena while navigating conspiracy and paranoia.
Coogler, known for directing Black Panther and Creed, confirmed earlier this year that his version of The X-Files would be his next project after his film Sinners. In past interviews, he shared that he met with Gillian Anderson to talk about the reboot, though her involvement hasn’t been confirmed.
This isn’t the first time Fox has tried to revive the X-Files brand. Back in 2020, the network planned an animated comedy spinoff titled The X-Files: Albuquerque, but that idea was dropped in 2023 before it reached production.
With Coogler leading the creative vision and Deadwyler possibly joining as one of the leads, fans could soon see a fresh and modern version of The X-Files that blends new perspectives with the mystery and intrigue that made the original series so beloved.
