‘Avengers: Doomsday’ Writer Wants Glen Powell for the MCU Role Fans Wanted To See for Years
Michael Waldron, the writer behind Loki, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, and Heels, recently appeared on the Bingeworthy podcast to talk about his new show Chad Powers and his work with actor Glen Powell.
During the chat, the topic shifted from comedy to superheroes, and Waldron shared who he’d love to see Powell play in the Marvel universe.
Without missing a beat, Waldron said he could easily picture Powell as Nova, the cosmic hero many fans have been waiting to see join the MCU. “He’d be a pretty good Nova,” Waldron said with a smile.
For those unfamiliar, Nova is part of the Nova Corps, an intergalactic peacekeeping force that first appeared in Guardians of the Galaxy.
It’s not hard to see why Waldron thinks Powell would be a perfect fit. Powell’s mix of confidence, humor, and intensity could work well for a character like Nova, who balances heroism with humanity, well, at least if he were to play Richard Rider. Fans have been eager for Marvel Studios to introduce the character for years, especially since the Nova Corps was first shown nearly a decade ago.
Unfortunately, while the idea sounds exciting, the chances of Nova showing up anytime soon seem slim.
In late 2024, Marvel Studios executive Brad Winderbaum confirmed that a Nova live-action series was in early development. Writer Sabir Pirzada was working on the script, and later, Ed Bernero from Criminal Minds was brought on as showrunner.
However, the project was later paused along with a few other Marvel series as part of a shift in the studio’s TV strategy.
Marvel is reportedly moving away from announcing every project in development and is instead focusing on a smaller number of shows to ensure better quality and less superhero overload. This decision came after internal changes to the studio’s production approach, especially following the overhaul of Daredevil: Born Again.
For now, Nova’s MCU future is uncertain, but Waldron’s comment has reignited fan interest in seeing the cosmic hero take flight, and Glen Powell could be just the guy to make it happen.
