Westeros has rarely felt this fractured, and the surviving members of House Velaryon are proof of just how much the war has cost. ‘House of the Dragon‘ has spent its early Season 3 episodes putting nearly every major family through the wringer, but few storylines carry as much emotional weight right now as the strained relationships within Corlys Velaryon’s bloodline. Fans have been closely tracking every scrap of footage tied to this family as the season pushes forward.

That attention only intensified this week. A new set of images shared by fan account westerosies offers a fresh look at Lord Corlys Velaryon, Queen Rhaenyra Targaryen, Alyn of Hull, and Addam of Hull together in the upcoming third episode of the season. The photos show Corlys seated at a candlelit table, along with intimate shots of Alyn and Addam in close conversation, hinting at a quieter, more personal chapter after weeks of chaos.

That shift in tone tracks with where the Velaryon storyline currently stands heading into Episode 3. Corlys was thrown overboard during the brutal Battle of the Gullet, leaving his fate uncertain for much of the premiere, though it has since been confirmed that he survives and remains central to the season going forward.

After being found by Addam in the aftermath of the battle, Corlys returned to discover his own castle reduced to ruins, a devastating homecoming that has clearly left its mark on him.

That loss appears to have pushed Corlys toward a long overdue reckoning with his sons. In the wake of the battle, Corlys made clear to his family that with his treasures and home destroyed, what matters most now is finally legitimizing Alyn and Addam as true Velaryons, something Alyn had wanted all along. The new images suggest Episode 3 may be the moment that promise either takes shape or gets tested.

The bond between Corlys and Alyn has been one of the more layered threads of the season so far, built on years of resentment that are not easily smoothed over. Steve Toussaint, who plays Corlys, told ScreenRant that his character sees himself in Alyn, particularly in Alyn’s refusal to simply accept a helping hand after being ignored for so long. Toussaint explained that Corlys expects gratitude once he finally acknowledges Alyn as his son, only for Alyn to push back and ask where that acknowledgment was decades earlier.

That friction has already played out in small but pointed moments earlier in the season. In the premiere, Corlys shared a rare private moment with Alyn over a harsh drink called dragon water, offering both an apology for lost time and a warning that rough seas lay ahead before the Battle of the Gullet began. It was Alyn, notably, who ultimately delivered the killing blow against Triarchy leader Sharako Lohar in that very battle, a moment fueled as much by duty as by his complicated admiration for the father who had long kept him at arm’s length.

Addam’s arc has taken a different shape entirely, rooted more in loyalty than resentment. As one of the dragonseeds, Addam was sent to Harrenhal to keep watch over Aemond and Vhagar alongside fellow dragonriders Ulf White and Hugh Hammer, and he remained committed to that responsibility even as Ulf pushed to abandon the post. That steadiness has already positioned him as someone Rhaenyra can trust, which makes his presence alongside Corlys and Rhaenyra in these new images feel especially significant.

With the queen herself now seated at the same table as Corlys and his sons, the photos hint at a moment where personal history and political necessity collide. Rhaenyra has just claimed the Iron Throne and lost her own heir in the process, so a scene built around loyalty, legitimacy, and family seems poised to resonate well beyond the Velaryon household. Whether that conversation brings reconciliation or fresh tension remains to be seen once Episode 3 finally airs.

For a show that built its reputation on sweeping dragon battles, these smaller character driven moments have quietly become some of its most affecting material. The new look at Corlys, Alyn, Addam, and Rhaenyra suggests Episode 3 may slow down just enough to let those relationships breathe before the war picks back up.
