Tom Felton Casts a Spell on Broadway with Draco Malfoy Comeback
Fans of the Harry Potter universe had a reason to cheer this week as Tom Felton made his Broadway debut in Harry Potter and the Cursed Child.
The actor, who famously played Draco Malfoy in the Harry Potter films, stepped back into the wizarding world, this time on stage, and the audience couldn’t have been happier to see him.
The moment Felton appeared on stage, the theater erupted with cheers and applause. The crowd’s excitement carried on for several moments before he even spoke his first line, “I need a favor.”
The play’s official Instagram account shared a clip of the moment, capturing the loud cheers and energy in the room. The post’s caption quoted a nostalgic line from Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone: “It’s true then, what they’re saying on the train,” reminding fans where Draco’s story all began.

Harry Potter and the Cursed Child takes place nearly two decades after the events of the original series. It follows the children of the now-grown-up characters, Harry, Hermione, Ron, and Draco, as they attend Hogwarts and deal with their own challenges in the wizarding world.
The play has been running since 2016 in London and opened on Broadway two years later, but Felton is the first actor from the movie series to join the stage production.
Felton’s involvement was announced earlier this year, and his run is expected to last 19 weeks. In interviews, he shared how emotional it was to return to the role that shaped much of his career. “It’s very, very easy to get emotional,” he said. “When they put my blond wig on for the theater production, I just immediately cried. It was just sort of like a blast from the past.”
The actor also talked about how different it feels to play an older version of Draco. “As much as it is reprising an old role for me, it’s very much treading into new, unfamiliar territory,” he explained. “I know him quite well as a kid. I don’t know him that well as an adult.”
For many fans, Felton’s return to the world of Harry Potter feels like reconnecting with an old friend. Seeing him bring Draco back to life in a new setting has added fresh energy to the long-running stage play and stirred deep nostalgia among audiences who grew up watching him on screen.
It’s rare for a movie actor to cross over into a stage adaptation of the same story, and Felton’s performance has clearly struck a chord. His return shows how deeply fans still care about the world J.K. Rowling created and how those characters continue to evolve even decades later.
