Tom Cruise and Sydney Sweeney were seen talking together at the 16th Governors Awards in Los Angeles on Sunday, where Cruise received an honorary Oscar.

Variety shared a video showing the two smiling and engaged in conversation. Cruise, 63, looked classic in a black tuxedo, while Sweeney, 28, turned heads in a sparkling dress and styled her short blonde hair in soft curls.

The two spent a noticeable amount of time together at the event, though it’s not known what they discussed. Cruise later gave an emotional speech honoring the people behind filmmaking and the power of cinema.

He told the audience, “The cinema, it takes me around the world. It helps me to appreciate and respect differences… So making films is not what I do, it is who I am.” He described how watching movies as a child sparked his imagination and inspired him to tell stories and explore the world.

Cruise was presented with the award by filmmaker Alejandro G. Iñárritu, who is directing him in a new movie set for 2026.

Cruise has received four Oscar nominations in the past, including for Born on the Fourth of July and Jerry Maguire. Sweeney, meanwhile, has been steadily building her acting career but has yet to receive an Oscar nomination.

The appearance comes after Cruise’s split from Ana de Armas, 37. Us Weekly reported that the breakup happened a few weeks ago, with sources saying the relationship moved too quickly for de Armas. The source told the outlet that she still likes Cruise and that the two share strong chemistry, leaving open the possibility of reconnecting in the future.

Sweeney posed on the red carpet earlier in the evening, completing her look with subtle makeup and silver drop earrings. Cruise’s public interaction with her drew attention, highlighting both actors at a high-profile awards show.
