Macaulay Culkin is open to playing Kevin McCallister again. The actor, who starred in the original Home Alone films, shared this news recently. He spoke during his “A Nostalgic Night with Macaulay Culkin” tour.

He confirmed he is not fully against a sequel. However, he stressed the script must be excellent. He said he “wouldn’t be completely allergic” to returning. He added that, “It would have to be just right.”

Culkin has his own idea for the next film. It reverses the plot of the first two movies.

His pitch shows Kevin as an adult father. He suggests Kevin is either a widower or a divorcee. Kevin is working very hard and not paying enough attention to his son. This neglect makes the son angry.

Kevin then gets locked out of his own home during the holidays. His son is the one setting the traps to keep him out. This makes Kevin the person trying to break in, similar to the original robbers.

Culkin explained the deeper meaning of the premise. He said, “the house is some sort of metaphor for our relationship.” Kevin would have to work to fix his bond with his child. The story’s main goal is for Kevin to “get let back into son’s heart’ kind of deal.”

Culkin called this his best current concept. He summarized it as “the closest elevator pitch that I have. I’m not completely allergic to it, the right thing.”

He previously stated his condition for returning in a December 2024 Q&A event. He joked that no script could possibly be worse than the one for the third film. This comment highlights his focus on script quality for any potential return to the franchise.

This sequel idea is smart because it uses the classic traps in a new way. It moves past the simple burglar plot and adds real emotional weight. It feels like a natural path for Kevin McCallister’s character. He gets to learn a lesson about being a parent from the perspective of being the person locked out. This premise could make for a very touching holiday film that still has the fun action fans love. What do you all think? Should this movie be made? Share your thoughts in the comments.
