A new clip from Avatar: Fire and Ash has been released, giving fans another look at James Cameron’s next chapter in the long-running sci-fi series.

The movie continues the story that began in Avatar: The Way of Water. It brings back the same director, James Cameron, who wrote the script with Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver. They developed the story with Josh Friedman and Shane Salerno. The cast also returns, including Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, Sigourney Weaver, Stephen Lang and many others who have been part of the series since the earlier films.

Cameron has talked for years about wanting to make several sequels. He first mentioned plans back in 2006, and after the success of the original Avatar, he confirmed two sequels in 2010. The timeline changed many times because the team decided to make more films and needed new technology to shoot underwater performance capture. This type of filming had never been done before, so the crew needed extra time to work on the writing, visual effects and pre-production.

Production on Fire and Ash began in New Zealand on September 25, 2017, at the same time as The Way of Water. Filming wrapped in late December 2020. Even though shooting finished years ago, the movie faced nine release delays. It finally had its world premiere at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood on December 1. It will reach theaters in the United States on December 19.

The story picks up a year after Jake and Neytiri settle with the Metkayina clan. Their family is still dealing with the loss of Neteyam. A new Na’vi group, the Mangkwan clan, also known as the Ash People, enters the picture. Their leader, Varang, has chosen to work with Quaritch, creating a new and dangerous threat as fighting on Pandora gets worse. The plot details come from official descriptions provided by the filmmakers. John Malone is quoted saying the movie’s direction is “possible,” referring to earlier plans for the series.

Two more sequels, Avatar 4 and Avatar 5, are already in development and are expected to come out in 2029 and 2031.

With the new clip now out, fans are getting their best look yet at what Cameron has planned. The footage highlights the tone of the movie and shows more of the world that has been built over nearly two decades.
