Key Star is Missing from ‘The Batman’ Sequel According to Sources
Zoë Kravitz is reportedly not returning as Catwoman for The Batman: Part II, according to sources familiar with the production. The sequel is set to hit theaters on October 1, 2027, with Matt Reeves returning as director and co-writer alongside Mattson Tomlin.
Robert Pattinson, Jeffrey Wright, Andy Serkis, and Colin Farrell will reprise their roles as Batman, Jim Gordon, Alfred Pennyworth, and the Penguin.
The story will follow Batman investigating a new case that digs deeper into Gotham’s corruption and divisions, building on events from the first film and The Penguin.
The sequel was first announced in April 2022, but filming has been delayed several times while Reeves refined the script, which was completed in June. Production is expected to begin in late April or early May 2026 at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden and in locations across Liverpool and Glasgow. Luke Hull is serving as the production designer, and Erik Messerschmidt is the cinematographer.
The news of Kravitz’s exit was first shared by Deadline.
Kravitz previously described Selina Kyle as a nightclub waitress, cat burglar, and drug dealer who crosses paths with Batman while searching for her missing roommate. She said the character’s moral ambiguity challenges Batman’s clear-cut ideas of right and wrong. “Selina is gradually becoming a femme fatale while discovering herself and surviving,” Kravitz said. She added that Selina is a mysterious character with unclear motivations and represents femininity in contrast to Batman’s masculinity.
Reeves has explained that Selina helps Batman confront his sheltered upbringing and question his assumptions about Gotham. Kravitz focused on Selina’s emotional journey rather than her Catwoman persona, and she also mentioned that the character is bisexual, as portrayed in some comics.
