Matthew Lillard Addresses Quentin Tarantino’s Diss: “It Hurts Your Feelings”
Matthew Lillard opened up to fans about a recent comment Quentin Tarantino made about him, and he didn’t hide how it made him feel.
Lillard brought up the topic while speaking on stage at GalaxyCon in Columbus, Ohio. He was reacting to something Tarantino said on a recent episode of The Bret Easton Ellis Podcast, where the filmmaker listed actors he doesn’t care for.
Lillard told the crowd that Tarantino had said, “I don’t care for Matthew Lillard.” The audience immediately booed when Lillard repeated it, and the actor tried to laugh it off at first by saying, “Eh, whatever. Who gives a s****.” But after the noise settled, he admitted the comment did hit him harder than he first let on.
He said, “It hurts your feelings. It f***** sucks.” Lillard also pointed out that big Hollywood names never get comments like that said about them publicly. He told the audience, “You wouldn’t say that to Tom Cruise. You wouldn’t say that to somebody who’s a top-line actor in Hollywood.”

Lillard went on to talk about the difference between how fans treat him at conventions and how the film industry sees him. He said, “I’m very popular in this room. I’m not very popular in Hollywood.” Someone in the crowd shouted that they loved him, and Lillard thanked them right away.
Tarantino’s comment about Lillard was part of a bigger discussion on the podcast, where he also took shots at other actors. While talking about his favorite films of the 2000s, he called Paul Dano “the weakest male actor in SAG” and said he “really can’t stand Owen Wilson.” He then added, “I don’t care for [Dano], I don’t care for Owen Wilson, and I don’t care for Matthew Lillard.”
Lillard addressed the situation head-on with fans, showing both humor and honesty as he explained how the remarks landed with him.
