The third season of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power has finished production, Amazon announced in a short promo video shared on their X account.

The new season continues to explore Middle-earth during the Second Age, set several years after the events of season two. It focuses on the growing war between the Elves and Sauron and his plans to forge the One Ring, which will give him the power to dominate Middle-earth.

The series is produced by Amazon MGM Studios in partnership with New Line Cinema. J. D. Payne and Patrick McKay return as showrunners, overseeing the story and the team of writers. Directors Charlotte Brändström, Sanaa Hamri, and Stefan Schwartz worked on multiple episodes for the season. Writing credits also include Justin Doble, Ben Tagoe, Ava Wong Davies, Constance Cheng, Jonathan Wilson, Griff Jones, and Sarah Anson.

Amazon has held the rights to The Lord of the Rings since November 2017 and committed to creating multiple seasons. By October 2024, the team was already writing the third season, which was officially confirmed in February. Filming began in the United Kingdom in May and wrapped, apparently, recently.

Several familiar faces are returning for season three, including Cynthia Addai-Robinson as Míriel, Robert Aramayo as Elrond, Morfydd Clark as Galadriel, Ismael Cruz Córdova as Arondir, Trystan Gravelle as Pharazôn, Lloyd Owen as Elendil, Charlie Vickers as Sauron, Benjamin Walker as Gil-galad, and Daniel Weyman as Gandalf.

The season also introduces new characters. Jamie Campbell Bower has been cast as a series regular in the role of Arlen, described as a “handsome high-born knight” who may be a new love interest for Galadriel.

Eddie Marsan will appear in a recurring role as Dromm, a character requiring a Scottish accent. Sources suggest Dromm could be connected to the Dwarves, possibly the brother of Durin IV. Additional casting announced in June included Andrew Richardson as a regular, with Zubin Varla and Adam Young in recurring roles. Varla previously contributed voice work to season two, though it is unclear if his new role is related.

The promo video shared by Amazon confirms that filming has wrapped and hints that fans can expect more updates soon about the premiere date and storyline details.
