This holiday season, parents watching the classic movie Home Alone are noticing something new. Kids are shouting “6-7!” at unexpected moments, all because of a viral trend that has been popular with tweens. The trend has children repeating the numbers in a sing-song way, and the 1990 film happens to include several references that trigger it.

In Home Alone, the McAllister family’s address is 671 Lincoln Boulevard. There’s also a scene where Kevin’s cousin counts the kids before they leave for the airport, saying “six, seven.” Even John Candy’s character, Gus, tells a story about once forgetting his child and mentions it took “six, seven weeks” for the boy to recover. These small details have become exciting for a new generation of viewers.

Parents are noticing how their kids react. Melissa Todd, a mother of two from Connersville, Indiana, says her 7-year-old daughter jumped up and yelled “6-7!” during a scene toward the end of the movie.

Her 10-year-old son repeated it more quietly. “I think I may have just stared with my mouth open for a second, processing what happened. I was unprepared,” she said. Todd shared a warning on Facebook for other parents: “Your kids will likely jump up and yell … just as mine did last night. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!! And yes, we’re already watching Christmas movies here.”

The trend has also inspired compilation videos of all the “6-7” moments in the film. Some parents are filming their children’s reactions and posting them online, while others are simply preparing themselves for the sudden interruptions. The Family AdventuresBlogger account even advises, “Choose a different movie if you don’t want your kids to lose their minds.”

Todd, who works as a music teacher, says she is used to hearing “6-7” in a classroom setting, where it has become a fun way to engage students. “Recently, we celebrated the 67th day of school. To start each class, I sang an improvised 6-7 song and had [students] sing along. They thought that was a hoot,” she said.

According to Siena Research Institute, Home Alone is the top holiday movie of 2024, proving that even a classic film can feel fresh again thanks to new trends.

Watching kids react to a decades-old movie in a completely new way is both surprising and funny. It shows how younger generations can add their own twist to old favorites. What do you think about kids turning holiday classics into viral moments? Share your thoughts in the comments.
