‘Assassin’s Creed’ Live-Action Series Introduces Its First Non-Binary Lead
Netflix’s live-action Assassin’s Creed series has cast its first non-binary lead as the show prepares to start production. Lola Petticrew will star alongside Toby Wallace, who was already confirmed as the series’ lead, according to Deadline.
The series is set to begin filming in Italy in 2026. While the show will take inspiration from the Assassin’s Creed video games, it will not directly adapt any specific story from the games. Italy will serve as both a filming location and the setting for the series.
Petticrew is known for playing Dolours Price in the Peabody Award-winning series Say Nothing, which explored The Troubles in Northern Ireland. They are also currently filming the upcoming British movie I See Buildings Fall Like Lightning, according to Deadline.
Netflix originally announced multiple Assassin’s Creed projects in October 2020, including a live-action series, an animated series, and an anime series. The live-action show is being produced by Ubisoft Film & Television.
Initially, Jeb Stuart was attached as the writer, with Jason Altman and Danielle Kreinik as executive producers, but Stuart is no longer involved, Collider reported in January 2023. By July 2025, Netflix and Ubisoft confirmed Roberto Patino and David Wiener as producers. Wallace and Petticrew were officially cast in November and December, respectively.
This casting marks an important moment for the franchise, introducing greater representation in a major role. Petticrew’s addition signals Netflix’s commitment to inclusivity while expanding the Assassin’s Creed universe.
