HBO Max has shared the official trailer for season two of The Pitt, giving fans a first look at what’s next for the doctors and nurses at Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Center. The preview was released on Tuesday and sets the tone for another intense run of episodes.

The trailer opens with a familiar face coming back to work. Charge nurse Dana, played by Katherine LaNasa, returns after almost walking away at the end of season one.

Viewers will remember she went through a brutal shift that ended with a patient punching her. In the new footage, Dana explains why she stayed. She says she “took some time” but adds, “who else is going to get this place through the Fourth of July,” as she looks out at a packed emergency room.

Another big return is Dr. Langdon, played by Patrick Ball. He was kicked out of the hospital last season after being caught stealing and abusing drugs. His comeback is not smooth. While Mel, played by Taylor Dearden, seems happy to see him, things are clearly tense with Robby. Robby asks Langdon to handle triage, telling him, “We can cover for you. We’ve been doing it for months.”

Robby, played by Noah Wyle, also appears to be on edge this season. The trailer shows him preparing for what he calls a “little sabbatical.” At the same time, he clashes with his temporary replacement, Dr. Al-Hashimi, played by new cast member Sepideh Moafi.

When she tries to share ideas to improve the department and gets interrupted by an emergency, Robby pushes back and tells her, “You are a very empathetic soul but this is the ED, it’s not for the faint of heart.” She fires back with, “What do you need to get some basic empathy back.”

As the chaos builds, both Dana and Dr. Abbot, played by Shawn Hatosy, hint that Robby may be avoiding his own issues. Abbot warns him that his break will mean “a lot of time to self-reflect. Are you sure you can handle that?” Robby’s reaction suggests he isn’t so sure.

The trailer also teases a major crisis at the hospital. A voice says that “Westbridge hospital has shut down all computer systems.” With screens going dark, Robby declares they are “going analog,” setting up another layer of pressure for the already overwhelmed staff.

According to HBO Max, season two takes place about 10 months after the events of season one and unfolds over the July 4 weekend. The new season premieres Thursday, Jan. 8 at 9 p.m., nearly one year after the show first debuted.

The season will have 15 episodes, released weekly until the finale on April 16. The cast also includes Supriya Ganesh, Fiona Dourif, Isa Briones, Gerran Howell, and Shabana Azeez.
