In Digger, Cruise plays Digger Rockwell, described in the logline as “the most powerful man in the world… embarking on a frantic mission to prove that he is humanity’s savior before the disaster he’s unleashed destroys everything.” The movie promises chaotic comedy with high stakes, blending dark humor with a global-scale catastrophe.
Principal photography for the film began in the United Kingdom on November 7, 2024, and wrapped on May 3, after six months of shooting. The cinematography was handled by Emmanuel Lubezki, and the film was shot on 35mm VistaVision.
Filming faced a brief pause in March when John Goodman suffered a minor hip injury that required hospitalization, but production continued smoothly afterward. Iñárritu confirmed in an interview shortly after production ended that the film would be a comedy.
Warner Bros. Pictures has scheduled the release of Digger in the United States for October 2, 2026, with an IMAX release planned. The recently released first trailer highlights the film’s darkly comedic tone, Cruise’s over-the-top performance, and glimpses of the film’s star-studded cast in chaotic situations.
