Timothée Chalamet Becomes First Star to Stand Atop Las Vegas’ Famous Sphere
The promotion for Marty Supreme is in full swing, and the team behind the film isn’t holding back. Even though the movie doesn’t hit theaters in the United States until December 25, and won’t arrive in other countries until February 18, it’s already making waves at the box office.
During its limited preview release in just six theaters, the sports comedy-drama earned $875,000, a per-theater average not seen since La La Land in 2016.
But the buzz isn’t just coming from ticket sales. Timothée Chalamet, who stars in and co-produces the film, took promotion to a whole new level in Las Vegas. In a daring stunt, Chalamet became the first person ever to appear on top of the city’s iconic Sphere, turning the structure into a giant “ping-pong ball” to highlight the movie’s table tennis theme. Fans and onlookers shared photos and videos of the spectacle online, making the event a viral sensation.

Marty Supreme, directed by Josh Safdie and co-written with Ronald Bronstein, is inspired by the life of American table tennis player Marty Reisman. The story follows rising table tennis star Marty Mauser as he fights to achieve greatness in 1950s New York. The film also stars Gwyneth Paltrow, Odessa A’zion, Kevin O’Leary, Tyler Okonma, Abel Ferrara, and Fran Drescher, among others.
Even before its wide release, the movie has received praise from critics. Rotten Tomatoes reports a 95% positive rating, and Metacritic shows a score of 91 out of 100. Chalamet’s performance has been singled out as “career-defining” by multiple critics, with IndieWire calling it “one of the most colossal movie performances of the 21st century.” The film has already been named one of the top ten films of 2025 by both the National Board of Review and the American Film Institute.
The combination of early box office success, critical acclaim, and bold promotion, like the Sphere stunt, shows that the Marty Supreme team is committed to making a major splash.
