Fans Get First Look at ‘Star Wars Minis’ in New Teaser
Star Wars fans have a sweet new treat this holiday season. StarWars.com reports that a bite-sized short called “The Gingerbread Death Star Trench Run” will debut on Star Wars Kids this Tuesday.
The short reimagines the iconic trench run from Star Wars: A New Hope using gingerbread cookies, complete with the Death Star, Darth Vader, and a fleet of X-wings.
The stylized animation was created by Industrial Light & Magic, with lead artist Landis Fields using some of the same Unreal Engine technology that brings Star Wars video games and live-action series to life.
“We all love to spread joy and inspire people to make things and to imagine things,” Fields told StarWars.com. He explained that the goal is to help kids discover the magic of the Star Wars stories while encouraging them to create their own art or costumes.
Fields has been a Star Wars fan since childhood, first introduced to the saga through a classmate’s Millennium Falcon toy. He hopes this short will give young viewers a fun entry point into the galaxy, just as he experienced. “The goal is for people to see the magic of these stories, but also to want to make a cool costume or to draw something or to do whatever it is that makes them happy,” he said.
Same big adventures with an adorable twist.

To make the gingerbread world feel real, Fields and the ILM team added small imperfections. They studied real cookies, hand-piped icing lines, and even used gumdrops for X-wing engines.
“As anybody who’s tried to put a gingerbread house together knows, it’s anything but perfect. You’re trying to glue something together with frosting. That’s part of the charm,” Fields explained. For the big trench run explosion, they carefully designed how candy would fly out and even added powdered sugar as a starry effect.
The short is part of a larger series of Star Wars Minis, which will feature other creative takes on the galaxy, like a Mandalorian and Grogu made entirely from yarn. “No matter what the style, we always wanted for them to feel small. So whether it’s a gingerbread cookie, crocheted dolls, or even the Japanese Chibi-style, they feel like something that a kid would be playing with,” Fields said.
Keep an eye on Star Wars Kids for the premiere of “The Gingerbread Death Star Trench Run”, and get ready for more fun Star Wars Minis in 2026.
