Timothée Chalamet Smashes Notable Christmas Box Office Record With New Film
Timothée Chalamet continues to rule the Christmas box office, marking his third straight holiday season with a major hit.
This streak started in 2023 with the musical “Wonka,” continued in 2024 with the Bob Dylan biopic “A Complete Unknown,” and now extends into 2025 with his ping-pong comedy “Marty Supreme.” According to box office tracking, “Marty Supreme” brought in $27 million over the four-day holiday period.
Chalamet’s holiday success is expected to continue with the upcoming release of “Dune: Part III” on December 18, 2026.
Paul Dergarabedian, Comscore’s head of marketplace trends, told reporters, “Seemingly every year, Timothée has a major hit during the important holiday moviegoing corridor. No matter the genre, whether it’s a musical, biopic, sci-fi or comedy, his choice in the material and collaborators has made him not only a bona fide movie star, but a box-office draw.”
“Marty Supreme,” directed by Josh Safdie, follows Marty Mauser’s quest to become a table-tennis champion. The film had a traditional weekend gross of $17 million, placing it third in North America behind “Avatar: Fire and Ash” ($64 million) and “Zootopia 2” ($20 million).
Its limited release the previous week had already pushed total earnings to $28.3 million. With a production budget of $70 million, the film still has room to grow as audiences continue to flock to theaters, aided by positive reviews (95% on Rotten Tomatoes) and a “B+” CinemaScore grade.

Industry expert David A. Gross praised Chalamet’s choice of projects, saying, “This was a gutsy, creative risk — a period sports drama — and it’s going to pay off, thanks to Chalamet and great holiday playing time.”
Chalamet’s previous holiday releases show how he has become a reliable box office draw. “Wonka” opened to $39 million in mid-December and ultimately earned $218 million domestically and $634 million worldwide. “A Complete Unknown” opened on Christmas Day 2024 with $11.6 million and finished with $75 million in North America and $140 million globally.
Chalamet’s films have become a fixture during the lucrative holiday movie period between Christmas and New Year’s.
Exhibitor Relations analyst Jeff Bock told Variety, “Timothée Chalamet is the ‘it guy’ right now. There’s no denying it. The promotional work he’s done with this film is high-level genius.”
