Joe Rogan has openly criticized President Donald Trump for his comments about the late Rob Reiner.

Reiner, the legendary director, recently passed away along with his wife, Michele, in a tragic incident involving their son, Nick, who has been arrested in connection to their deaths. Trump claimed on social media that Reiner’s death was “due to the anger he caused others” because of his outspoken criticism of Trump.

Speaking on his podcast with Shane Gillis, Rogan called Trump’s remarks “not funny” and said they showed a lack of empathy. “There’s no justification for what he did that makes any sense in a compassionate society,” Rogan said.

He compared Trump’s reaction to celebrating violence against public figures and criticized the president for making the comments publicly. “It just shows you how crazy it is, the way Trump thinks and talks. It’s just like, the guy got sliced up by his kid, you know? Anybody that doesn’t see that and go, ‘F***, man,’” Rogan added.

The controversy began with a Truth Social post in which Trump wrote about Reiner’s death, describing the director as having a “mind crippling disease known as TRUMP DERANGEMENT SYNDROME” and blaming him for “driving people CRAZY” with his political views. When asked about backlash from Republicans, Trump doubled down, calling Reiner a “deranged person” who was “very bad for our country.”

Hollywood quickly responded to Trump’s comments. Actor Josh Gad wrote on Threads, “There is no low that is too low for this f**** psychopath. Rob Reiner was 1000 times the man you are and unlike you, he actually cared about the American people.” Jimmy Kimmel called Trump’s remarks “hateful and vile” and urged for more compassion and leadership.

Rogan also expressed disappointment that Trump made these comments publicly rather than privately. “It’s so disappointing. It’s like why… if you say that privately that’s one thing, which is also crazy, but it’s so disappointing,” he said, adding that someone should have taken Trump’s “f*** phone” away before he weighed in on the matter.

It’s clear that many in the entertainment industry see Trump’s remarks as cruel and insensitive given the circumstances surrounding Reiner’s death. Rogan’s comments reflect a broader frustration with public figures attacking others after tragic events.
