Netflix faced technical problems once again as fans tried to watch the finale of Stranger Things season five. The final episode, called “Chapter Eight: The Rightside Up,” premiered at 5 p.m. PT on New Year’s Eve. Many viewers reported being unable to stream the episode because the platform briefly crashed.

People who tried to play the finale saw an error message that said, “Something went wrong. Sorry, we’re having trouble with your request. You’ll find lots to explore on the home page.” Fans quickly shared their frustrations on X.

One wrote, “Waking up since 2 am just to watch Netflix crash unreal craze stranger Things finale,” while another said, “NETFLIX CRASH JUST AS IT HITS 1AM OFC IT F***** DIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIID.”

This isn’t the first time Netflix has struggled with the show. When season five, Volume 1, was released on November 26, the platform also experienced brief outages. Netflix said, “Some members briefly experienced an issue streaming on TV devices, but service recovered for all accounts within five minutes.”

The repeated crashes show how popular Stranger Things still is, even after nine years on air. They also highlight the challenges streaming services face when millions of fans try to watch a highly anticipated episode at the same time.

It’s amazing that the show can still pull such a huge audience, but Netflix needs to make sure fans can watch without interruptions. Technical problems during a finale can be frustrating for viewers who have waited years for this moment. What do you think about Netflix crashing during the Stranger Things finale? Did it ruin your experience, or did you manage to watch it anyway? Share your thoughts in the comments.
