Mickey Rourke Slams Fake GoFundMe, Claims He Doesn’t Need Charity: “Iād rather stick a gun up my – and pull the trigger
Mickey Rourke has spoken out to deny any connection to a GoFundMe page that claimed to raise money to help him avoid eviction. The Oscar-nominated actor addressed the situation in a video posted to his Instagram on Monday night.
āSomebody set up some kind of foundation or fund for me to donate money, like in a charity, and thatās not me, OK? If I needed money, I wouldnāt ask for no f**** charity. Iād rather stick a gun up my a** and pull the trigger,ā Rourke said.
The actor, who held his dog Lucky and wore a pink V-neck and his signature cowboy hat, admitted he was both frustrated and confused by the page. āWhoever did this, I donāt know why they did it, I donāt understand it. I wouldnāt know what a GoFund foundation is in a million years,ā he added. āYou know, my life is very simple, I donāt go to outside sources like that. And yeah, it is embarrassing, but Iām sure Iāll get over it like anything else.ā
The GoFundMe, reportedly created by Liya-Joelle Jones for Kimberly Hines, had already raised over $100,000, surpassing its goal. The page claimed that Rourke, after stepping away from acting to become a professional boxer, was left with lasting physical and emotional scars and abandoned by the Hollywood industry.
āFame does not protect against hardship, and talent does not guarantee stability. What remains is a person who deserves dignity, housing, and the chance to regain his footing,ā the description read.
Rourke urged fans not to donate and advised anyone who had already given money to request a refund. āIām going to talk to my lawyer ā I hate talking to him, but Iāve had him forever and I love him. But Iām going to talk to Bill and get to the bottom of this,ā he said.
The actor also discussed his financial situation, revealing that he had been dealing with back rent on his Los Angeles home.
āCOVID and the writersā strike killed my money, but I was in a really bad situation with the place I was renting. Everything was good for five or six years, and then two scumbags from New York bought the house and they wouldnāt fix anything ⦠But I would never ask strangers or fans or anybody for a nickel. I mean, thatās not my style. You ask anybody that knows me, itās humiliating and itās really f***** embarrassing,ā he said.
Rourke assured fans that he is currently okay. āIām very grateful for what I have. I have a roof over my head and food to eat. Just get your money back, please. I donāt need anybodyās money and I wouldnāt do it this way. I got too much pride, man,ā he concluded.
The GoFundMe page had donors giving up to $5,000, with many leaving supportive messages. One wrote, āA small gesture to a film legend and modern icon, the strong & great Mickey Rourke.ā
Another added, āFor all the joy and inspiration you gave to mankind (and dogkind, I guess), you deserve to get supported during hard times. Hope you get back on your feet soon.ā
