Former SNL Star Admits on Instagram He Sold Pills to Fellow Castmates
Former “Saturday Night Live” cast member Chris Redd opened up on Instagram about his struggles with prescription pills during his time on the show.
In a roughly six-minute video posted Tuesday morning, Redd admitted to selling some of the pills to his fellow castmates. He said he shared the story to bring more “vulnerability and openness” to his life and work.
“While I was at the show, I had some pill issues, you know, some pill problems,” Redd said. “Nothing too crazy, but crazy for my black a**. And I was even selling some to some of my castmates. I’m not gonna snitch on y’all m******** man.”
Redd also expressed disappointment in how some cast members reacted. Instead of offering support, he said they would “just talk s***” about him, which added to his struggles. “I would hear them because, you know, some of that Adderall s*** got you super hearing and shit,” he added. “But [they] wouldn’t help me, you know. I would have panic attacks, [they] wouldn’t be concerned about me or nothing. Just would talk s***. It’s crazy how somebody would watch you destroy yourself.”
Redd joined “SNL” as a featured player in 2017 and remained on the show for five seasons, leaving in 2022 before the start of the 48th season. During his time on the show, he became known for his impressions, including one of New York Mayor Eric Adams, and appeared in many pre-taped sketches.
In 2018, he shared an Emmy for co-writing the song “Come Back, Barack,” which humorously urged former President Barack Obama to run for office again.
Since leaving “SNL,” Redd has appeared in TV shows such as Power Book III: Raising Kanan and Happy Family USA, as well as movies including Merv and Candy Cane Lane.
