Netflix has confirmed that Wednesday, its most popular show, will not return with a new season until 2027. The update comes from Netflix’s newly revealed 2026 TV slate, which outlines what viewers can expect next year, and what they will not.

Netflix has recently improved how fast many of its shows return. By renewing series early, the company has managed to shorten the wait time for several dramas and almost all of its comedies. Shows like The Diplomat, The Night Agent, Virgin River, Monster, and The Lincoln Lawyer are now closer to a regular release schedule. However, Wednesday is not one of them.

When Netflix shared its plans for 2026, Wednesday was missing from the list. Other big titles were announced, including new seasons of Bridgerton, One Piece, and Beef, as well as final seasons of Outer Banks and The Witcher. But Wednesday was nowhere to be seen, confirming that fans will need to wait longer.

The delay is largely due to how complex the show is to make. Wednesday is one of Netflix’s biggest productions. It requires long filming schedules and heavy post-production work. Shows of this scale often need close to two years between seasons. That timeline was stretched even further for Wednesday because of the 2023 Hollywood strikes.

Season 2 of Wednesday is set to arrive in 2026, nearly three years after the first season. Netflix has already renewed the show for Season 3, even before Season 2 is released. According to industry reports, the next season is already in the casting stage. Actress Eva Green has joined the cast, and production is expected to begin in early 2026. The planned release window is sometime in 2027.

Netflix’s early renewal of Wednesday is meant to help reduce delays going forward, but it still will not be enough to bring the show back sooner than 2027. The series remains one of the most demanding projects on the platform, similar to past Netflix hits that also had long gaps between seasons.
