Gwyneth Paltrow is opening up about her return to acting and what it was really like filming intimate scenes with Timothée Chalamet.

The actress spoke candidly during a Q&A at the San Vicente Bungalows in Santa Monica to promote her latest movie, Marty Supreme. The discussion, which was moderated by Demi Moore, focused on the on-screen romance between Paltrow and the 30-year-old Chalamet, a pairing that raised eyebrows because of their age difference.

Paltrow, 53, admitted that she initially felt a bit awkward about the script. “He was 27 or 28, and I was 50-whatever, and, I mean, it’s weird,” she told Moore. She said she worried not only about her own comfort but also about how Chalamet would handle the scenes. “And I [thought], ‘Oh, if it’s weird for me, then it’s going to probably really weird for [him],’ but actually, it was fine,” she explained. “It wasn’t that weird.”

The role required multiple intimate scenes, which added to her concern. “It was a lot of sex scenes … and I was sort of worried about it too, just having not done all that kind of thing in so long, but it was very comfortable, and it was fine,” Paltrow shared. She credited Chalamet’s professionalism for making the scenes easier to handle. “He’s so easy to work with. He’s so brilliant and committed and comfortable and confident,” she said.

While Paltrow and Chalamet managed the scenes professionally, her family had a different reaction. She joked about how her son, Moses, reacted when he saw her in the movie at the Los Angeles premiere. “Oh my God! My poor son,” she laughed. “Can you imagine when he came to the premiere in L.A.? He wanted to die.”

Marty Supreme, directed by Josh Safdie, is a period piece set in the 1950s about Timothée Chalamet’s character, Marty Mauser, a shoe salesman with a dream of becoming the world’s best table tennis player. The film is inspired by real-life ping pong champion Marty Reisman, though it tells a fictionalized story. Safdie, known for intense character-driven films like Uncut Gems, delivers a fast-paced, high-energy movie with this project.

Chalamet continues to build a diverse acting resume with this role. He is already known for blockbusters like Dune and Wonka, as well as his Oscar-nominated performance in Call Me by Your Name. For Paltrow, Marty Supreme marks a major return to acting after focusing on her lifestyle brand, Goop, and family life in recent years. She is still widely recognized for her role as Pepper Potts in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and for winning an Academy Award for Shakespeare in Love.

The cast of Marty Supreme includes Odessa A’zion, Tyler, the Creator, Fran Drescher, Abel Ferrara, and Kevin O’Leary, alongside Paltrow and Chalamet. The movie is now in theaters, giving audiences a chance to see the chemistry between the two leads.

Fans and critics alike are watching to see how the age gap in this on-screen romance affects the story. Paltrow’s candid comments, shared during the Q&A reported by media outlets covering the event, show that she approached the experience with honesty, humor, and professionalism.

“It was very comfortable, and it was fine,” she said, summing up her experience with Chalamet, proving that even potentially awkward moments can turn into successful collaborations.
