Alice in Borderland fans finally have an answer about the future of the show, but it might not be the news they were hoping for. Even though season 3 ended with a big cliffhanger last September, it looks like that was actually the end of the road. Netflix recently released a big report called What We Watched: The Second Half of 2025 on January 20th. In that report, they officially called season 3 the third and final season of the series.

The proof that the show is canceled was hidden in the viewership data, where Netflix labeled the show as finished. It is a bit confusing because the show is still very popular, with about 25 million views in the second half of 2025.

The main trailer for the third season was actually titled The Final Card, which sounds like a pretty big hint in hindsight. Some people in the UK even saw ads with influencers that said season 3 was the final one. It seems like the plan was always to wrap things up, even if Netflix didn’t make a giant announcement about it earlier.

One reason for the show ending now is that the director, Shinsuke Sato, has moved on to a new project. He is currently working on a live-action version of My Hero Academia for Netflix, and that is supposed to start filming this year. Since he is so busy with that, it makes sense that he wouldn’t have time for a fourth season of Alice in Borderland. Plus, the show has now officially adapted the entire manga story.

The report and analysis of these hints were made by What’s on Netflix.

The show originally followed Arisu, played by Kento Yamazaki, and Usagi, played by Tao Tsuchiya, as they fought to survive deadly games in a deserted Tokyo. Over three seasons, we saw them tackle everything from physical challenges to psychological mind games. Even though the main story is over, the series leaves behind a huge legacy as one of the most successful Japanese originals on Netflix.

Are you sad to see Arisu’s journey end, or do you think a spin-off set in the US would be an exciting new start for the franchise in the comments?
