Jenny McCarthy has been through a rough year, and it took a serious toll on her body. The TV personality recently explained that her noticeable weight loss was not planned at all. It came from a long and painful health issue that left her struggling to eat and recover.

In an interview with PEOPLE, McCarthy said the problem started with a ceramic dental implant that went wrong. What followed were months of infections that kept spreading. Over time, the situation became so severe that her teeth and other implants began to fall out. I had one infection that turned into another and another, she shared. She also said strange growths even appeared on her eyes, which scared her deeply.

Doctors eventually discovered the real issue was a serious infection inside her jawbone. To fix it, they had to perform surgery and remove infected bone. In total, McCarthy went through nine mouth surgeries during 2025. For almost a full year, she was on antibiotics and could only eat soft foods. I’ve been on antibiotics for a year, and have had to eat soft foods only, she told the outlet.

Because eating was painful and limited, the weight started coming off quickly. Fans noticed her slimmer appearance when she shared a holiday photo with her husband, Donnie Wahlberg, late last year. McCarthy later joked that the weight loss was not exactly something to celebrate since it came from having stitches in her mouth and barely being able to eat.

Now, she says she is finally turning a corner. The pain has eased, and she can eat real food again. I think I’m past the storm, she said. I’m about to chow down. Feeling better has helped her feel more like herself after such a long stretch of discomfort.

Despite everything, McCarthy never fully stepped away from work. She is currently back as a judge on season 14 of The Masked Singer, which premiered on Fox on January 7. She appears alongside Ken Jeong and Robin Thicke, with Rita Ora also on the panel.

She also made news earlier this year after speaking honestly about her time on The View. During a podcast appearance, she said she would not return to the show even for a reunion, calling that chapter of her life extremely stressful. These days, she seems focused on staying healthy and spending time with her family.

For Jenny McCarthy, the weight loss may have caught attention, but the real story is about recovery. After a year of pain, surgeries, and setbacks, she is finally looking forward to eating, healing, and moving on.
