Sydney Sweeney Breaks Silence on Cosmetic Work and Whether She Had “Any Work Done”
Sydney Sweeney is once again in the spotlight, this time talking openly about the intense scrutiny her body has faced over the years. The Euphoria star, who recently turned 28, says her appearance has often been treated like public property, especially growing up online. In a new cover story with Cosmopolitan dated January 30, Sweeney spoke about how the constant comparisons have affected her, while also promoting her new lingerie line, SYRN.
Sweeney reflected on how her childhood images are constantly circulated and compared to her current self. I see photos comparing me to my child self all the time, she said. I was 14 in that image. I’m 28 now. Addressing rumors about cosmetic procedures, she was clear. It’s not true. I’ve never gotten any work done.
She also pointed out that the conversation about her body is bigger than just her. I wish there was something in place on social media to restrict things that aren’t true, Sweeney said. She explained that the attention can influence younger fans. There are girls who will look at me and say, ‘I need to do these things to feel pretty.’ She added that she has spent years explaining basic truths about bodies. I feel like I’ve had to explain how boobs work for forever now.
The interview also tied Sweeney’s body commentary to her business work. She wants her lingerie line, SYRN, to promote empowerment and choice rather than seeking approval. I want SYRN to stand for the power of choice, she said. Sharing an early memory, she added, In sixth grade, I was a 32 DD. She emphasized that fit issues are often misinterpreted. If your top doesn’t fit perfectly, it’s going to ride up.
Sweeney has had a busy and diverse year in film. Her psychological thriller The Housemaid, directed by Paul Feig and co-starring Amanda Seyfried, was a domestic hit and quickly secured a sequel.
She also starred in the boxing biopic Christy, portraying Christy Martin and gaining 30 pounds of muscle for the role. The film earned her critical praise and the Virtuoso Award at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival.
Looking ahead, Sweeney has several major projects. She will play Kim Novak in the romantic drama Scandalous, directed by Colman Domingo, and take on a sci-fi role in Netflix’s live-action Gundam alongside Noah Centineo. Fans will also return to her Euphoria character, Cassie Howard, when the show’s third season premieres on HBO on April 12.
SYRN, pronounced “siren,” officially launched on January 28, and emphasizes inclusivity with 44 sizes. The debut collection, titled Seductress, reportedly sold out within hours. The launch made headlines after bras were hung on the Hollywood sign, which prompted a legal inquiry from the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce.
Sweeney’s venture into lingerie comes at a time when she is reclaiming her image on her own terms. She balances a high-profile acting career with building a brand that speaks to body confidence and choice.
