Heidi Klum turned heads at the Grammys with a look that pushed the nude dress trend further than most people expected. The outfit looked like it was made from her own skin, and that was almost true. The dress was designed to match her body exactly, which is why it became one of the most talked-about looks of the night.

The supermodel explained how the outfit came together in an interview with Reuters. She said she worked closely with German designer Marina Hoermanseder to create the piece. The designer used leather and shaped it to match Klum’s body.

Klum shared that the leather was sprayed and color-matched so it would be as close to my skin as possible. The final dress included buckles along the sides and detailed shaping that made it look almost unreal.

Even though the dress looked incredible, wearing it was not easy. Klum admitted that the stiff leather made it very hard to move. Sitting down was nearly impossible, and bending her knees was out of the question. She laughed about it with reporters and said she would be clapping and standing the entire time because that was the only way she could enjoy the show.

The making of the dress involved more than just careful tailoring. According to Klum, the designer used a full 3D scan of her body to build a custom mannequin. That mannequin was then used to shape the leather perfectly.

Fans later got a behind-the-scenes look at the process in a video shared on Instagram. The clip showed the leather being heated, stretched, and coated until it became glossy. The caption summed it up with the words Wow, wow, wow, just wow.

Klum did not stay in the leather dress all night. Later on, she shared another video of herself relaxing in a black outfit and enjoying a burger. Other stars also leaned into bold and sheer fashion at the event, including Chappell Roan, showing that naked-style looks were a major theme this year.

Outside of red carpet moments, Klum has had a busy year. She recently returned as host and executive producer of Project Runway for its 22nd season, alongside Nina Garcia and Christian Siriano. She is also still leading Germany’s Next Top Model, which is now airing its 21st season.

She has also stepped into voice acting again, lending her voice to the animated movie Hoppers as a shark named Hai-Di in the German version. On a personal note, she recently marked her eighth wedding anniversary with her husband, Tom Kaulitz.

Do you think Heidi Klum’s custom leather Grammys look is her boldest red carpet moment yet, or do her Halloween costumes still top it? Share your thoughts in the comments.
