Margot Robbie Recalls Being Given a Book About Eating Less by Another Actor
Margot Robbie is opening up about an uncomfortable memory from the early days of her career, and it is one that still sticks with her years later. The actress shared the story during a recent video interview with Charli XCX for Complex, where the two casually discussed strange moments from their past.
During the conversation, Charli XCX asked Robbie about the worst gift she had ever received. Robbie did not hesitate before answering. She said a male co-star once handed her a book instead of a normal present, and the message behind it was hard to miss.
The book was Why French Women Don’t Get Fat, a lifestyle guide released in 2007 that focuses on portion control and weight habits. Robbie explained that the gift felt like a clear suggestion that she needed to lose weight. At the time, she was still early in her career and trying to find her footing in the industry.
Looking back, Robbie said the moment left her completely stunned. Her reaction was immediate and emotional. Whoa, f— you, dude, she recalled thinking. She explained that it was wild to realize someone believed giving her a book about eating less was an acceptable thing to do.
Robbie chose not to name the actor involved and said the incident happened a long time ago. She added that she honestly has no idea what happened to him or where he ended up. Charli XCX jumped in with her own blunt take, joking that his career’s over, babe, which made Robbie laugh.
The actress said she can now look back on the moment with humor, but at the time, it felt invasive and unnecessary. She described it as one of those experiences that makes you pause and wonder how someone could be so unaware. Even years later, she still finds the situation unbelievable.
Today, Robbie’s career looks very different from where it was back then. As of February, she is one of the most in-demand names in Hollywood and has full control over the projects she chooses. She is currently busy promoting her latest film, Wuthering Heights, which is set to hit theaters on February 13.
The movie is a new adaptation of the Emily Brontë novel and is directed by Emerald Fennell. Robbie plays Catherine Earnshaw opposite Jacob Elordi as Heathcliff. The film has already drawn attention for its intense tone and modern approach, with a cast that also includes Hong Chau and Shazad Latif.
Robbie is also producing the film through her company, LuckyChap Entertainment. The project continues her working relationship with Fennell, following their collaborations on Promising Young Woman and Saltburn. Behind the scenes, Robbie has become just as influential as she is on screen.
Outside of Wuthering Heights, she recently starred in A Big Bold Beautiful Journey with Colin Farrell, which was released late last year. She is also rumored to be developing several high-profile projects, including a The Sims movie and a possible Ocean’s Eleven prequel with Ryan Gosling.
