Margot Robbie has become one of the most recognizable stars in Hollywood, but her journey from Australian soap actress to international icon was far from easy. She began her career on Neighbours, working alongside other future stars like Guy Pearce and Natalie Imbruglia, gaining experience on a small set before moving on to bigger projects.

Her first major international exposure came in 2013 with About Time, a romantic comedy that introduced her to global audiences. However, it was Martin Scorsese’s The Wolf of Wall Street that truly cemented her place in Hollywood.

Playing Naomi Lapaglia put her on a massive set with some of the most experienced actors in the industry. Robbie has admitted that walking onto a Scorsese set was intimidating, and she even needed a bit of “liquid courage” to get through her first major scene with Leonardo DiCaprio, taking a couple of shots of tequila to calm her nerves.

Despite her confident screen presence today, Robbie hasn’t escaped moments of embarrassment. During a press tour for Barbie with Ryan Gosling, she reflected on what she called her most “ridiculous” on-screen moment.

She recalled a public service announcement from her Neighbours days where she had to wear a giant cigarette suit. Looking back, she joked that the costume was a far cry from the high-fashion roles she plays today, but it was all part of learning the ropes in the industry.

The success of The Wolf of Wall Street launched Robbie’s career into the stratosphere. She went on to star in films like Focus, Suicide Squad, and Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, proving her range across comedy, action, and drama. Her performances consistently drew praise, earning her two Academy Award nominations and positioning her as both a talented actress and a rising producer.

Robbie’s influence has only grown in recent years. She became a household name worldwide with Barbie, a project she also produced, which earned over a billion dollars at the global box office. While stepping into the pink-hued, whimsical world of Barbie Land, she proved she could balance blockbuster entertainment with her serious acting chops.

Her latest project, a modern adaptation of Emily Brontë’s Wuthering Heights, was released on February 13. Directed by Emerald Fennell, who previously collaborated with Robbie on Promising Young Woman and Saltburn, the film casts Robbie as Catherine Earnshaw opposite Jacob Elordi’s Heathcliff.

The movie has already made a significant box office impact, earning over $92 million in its opening week. Critics have been divided on its “modernized” approach, but audiences have flocked to see Robbie’s intense, emotional performance.

Looking ahead, Robbie is continuing her collaboration with A24 in the romantic drama A Big Bold Beautiful Journey, which also stars Colin Farrell. Her production company, LuckyChap Entertainment, is developing a live-action The Sims movie, generating buzz online even before filming begins.

Robbie has proven that she isn’t just a leading lady but also a smart producer with an eye for unique projects. She carefully balances big studio blockbusters with independent and experimental work, demonstrating a rare versatility in Hollywood. Her career trajectory shows a mix of talent, ambition, and the ability to learn from early, embarrassing experiences.
