Hailey Bieber is opening up about a health scare that completely changed the way she thinks about her body and her life. In a recent February 19 appearance on Jake Shane’s Therapuss podcast, the 29-year-old model spoke candidly about her 2022 mini-stroke and the heart surgery that followed, calling the experience “the scariest thing I’ve ever gone through.”

The ordeal began in March 2022, when Hailey was rushed to the hospital after experiencing stroke-like symptoms caused by a blood clot in her brain. Doctors soon discovered she had a patent foramen ovale, or PFO, a heart defect she had since birth.

The condition required corrective surgery, which marked the start of a period of intense anxiety and stress. Hailey admitted that even returning to the hospital where the incident happened triggered PTSD-like feelings for her.

The experience left her hyper-aware of her health in a way she had never been before. “I’ve always been fascinated by the human body, but this really made me proactive and extra careful about my wellbeing,” she said.

She explained that the scare also inspired her creative work, noting that her interest in skincare actually stems from a deep curiosity about medicine and biology. This fascination helped spark the launch of her beauty brand, Rhode, which Hailey says was her way of channeling the lessons from her health journey into something positive and productive.

While the recovery was intense, Hailey said she now feels a sense of gratitude for the medical team that helped her navigate the crisis. “Nearly four years later, I feel relief and a renewed commitment to staying on top of my health,” she told Shane. She also hopes her story can help others recognize the importance of listening to their bodies and seeking help when something feels off.

Hailey admitted that she still experiences occasional nerves about her health, but she emphasized that the experience has given her a new perspective on life. She said it has made her focus more on her family, her career, and her personal growth.

This year, she and her husband, Justin Bieber, celebrated ten years since they first went public on Instagram. The couple also made a highly anticipated red carpet appearance at the Grammy Awards on February 1, marking their first joint Grammys walk in four years to support Justin’s nominations.

In addition to her health and family focus, Hailey remains busy building her career and expanding her brand. Rhode has become a platform for her to combine wellness, beauty, and education, and she often talks about how health awareness informs her creative decisions.

She also uses her platform to share her journey with fans, hoping to inspire others to take care of themselves and prioritize their own well-being. Hailey’s story shows how a frightening medical experience can transform someone’s life.

From her mini-stroke to her heart surgery, she turned a personal crisis into an opportunity to learn, grow, and even build a business that reflects her passion for health. “I want people to understand the value of paying attention to their bodies and not taking their health for granted,” she said.
