Emma Stone turned heads at the BAFTA Film Awards in London, but it wasn’t just her stunning black Louis Vuitton gown that caught attention. The 37-year-old actress wore a sleek halter-neck dress with a flowing train, but fans online quickly focused on her seemingly slimmer figure.

On X, formerly Twitter, viewers were quick to notice the change. One user asked, “What happened to Emma Stone? Why are so many stars losing so much weight lately?” Others commented that she looked thinner than in previous years, while some expressed worry about how stressful the awards season might be for her.

Not everyone agreed, though. Many fans defended Stone against the speculation, calling the scrutiny “thin-shaming.” One supporter wrote, “Shame on you for analyzing her body,” while another added that her current appearance “is consistent with how she’s looked for years.”

This isn’t the first time Stone has had to deal with public commentary on her body. Over ten years ago, she told Seventeen magazine, “Keeping weight on is a struggle for me, especially when I’m under stress,” explaining that her figure is largely due to genetics and her busy schedule.

Rumors about Stone’s appearance aren’t limited to weight. At the Golden Globes in January, some fans suggested she might have had cosmetic work, pointing to her smooth, youthful skin. The actress has never confirmed these claims, but the conversation around her looks continues.

Despite the chatter, Stone remains one of Hollywood’s most respected actresses. She was nominated for a Leading Actress BAFTA for her role in Bugonia, a sci-fi comedy directed by Yorgos Lanthimos.

This marks her fourth collaboration with the director after The Favourite and Poor Things. The film also stars Jesse Plemons and follows two men who kidnap a CEO they believe is an alien. Stone is also keeping busy behind the scenes.

Her production company, Fruit Tree, helped launch the acclaimed series The Curse, and she’s set to star in the sequel to Cruella, currently in early development at Disney. Between work and raising her daughter in Los Angeles, she continues to juggle a busy professional and personal life.

Her BAFTA nomination for Bugonia places her in the mix for the upcoming Academy Awards, where she’s competing against Jessie Buckley and Angelina Jolie. Even as online debates swirl about her appearance, Stone’s talent and influence in film remain undeniable.
