By the mid-1990s, Leonardo DiCaprio was already turning heads with films like The Basketball Diaries and Romeo + Juliet. But it was his role in James Cameron’s Titanic in 1997 that truly launched him into international stardom.

From that point on, DiCaprio became one of Hollywood’s most sought-after actors, working with directors like Martin Scorsese, Quentin Tarantino, and Steven Spielberg. One project that sticks out in his memory is Catch Me If You Can, Spielberg’s 2002 film about the real-life con artist Frank Abagnale.

Christopher Walken played DiCaprio’s father in the movie, and the actor has often spoken about how special that collaboration was. I’ve always wanted him to play my father, DiCaprio once said. He has this ability to pick up on cosmic messages that just come through in his performance.

DiCaprio recalled a particularly intense moment on set. In one scene, his character visits his father, and Walken began reacting in a way that wasn’t in the script. I remember… the scene where I come back to see my dad, and he’s talking about my mom, and all of a sudden he… he like kind of hyperventilates, DiCaprio explained.

He admitted that he panicked, thinking Walken might actually be having a heart attack. I thought the man was having a heart attack in front of me, he said. That unscripted moment stayed in the final cut, showcasing Walken’s incredible immersion in the role.

DiCaprio said this experience reminded him of what it feels like when a performer truly lives in the moment. It’s a level of commitment he himself strives for in every role. Over the years, that dedication has become a hallmark of his career, from blockbuster action films to smaller, more nuanced indie projects.

Recently, DiCaprio has been in the awards spotlight again after his performance in Paul Thomas Anderson’s satirical action film One Battle After Another. The movie, which casts him as a paranoid ex-revolutionary, dominated the BAFTAs, winning Best Film and Best Director. DiCaprio was nominated for Best Actor but lost to Robert Aramayo.

Even so, the film’s success has kept him center stage this awards season. Looking ahead, DiCaprio is keeping busy. He is currently filming What Happens at Night in Prague, his seventh collaboration with Martin Scorsese.

The supernatural mystery, produced by Apple Original Films, stars Jennifer Lawrence and Mads Mikkelsen alongside him as a couple navigating strange events in a deserted European hotel. Fans are also buzzing about Heat 2, a prequel-sequel hybrid directed by Michael Mann, rumored to feature DiCaprio with Christian Bale and Austin Butler.

Outside of acting, DiCaprio remains committed to environmental causes. Whether he’s playing a clever con artist, a haunted revolutionary, or a man searching for answers in a mysterious hotel, Leonardo DiCaprio’s career has been marked by incredible range and unforgettable collaborations.
