The spotlight was on Emily Rudd as she joined fans and cast members at the premiere event for One Piece: Into the Grand Line. The event marked the next phase of the live-action adaptation as it moves deeper into the story fans have been waiting to see on screen.

The new season follows the Straw Hat crew as they finally move into the Grand Line. This part of the story is known for its danger and strange conditions. Their journey will take them toward major locations such as Drum Island and Alabasta.

Rudd has spoken openly in past interviews about how much the original story by Eiichiro Oda means to her. While discussing the creator’s work, she said, Oda-sensei is an absolute genius and it is kind of hard to argue against genius.

She has also talked about what makes the story connect with so many people. According to Rudd, it is a story about found family, a story about freedom, and pursuing your dreams.

Taking on the role of Nami came with pressure, especially because of the global fanbase. Reflecting on this responsibility, she admitted, I was so deeply aware that this was going to hinge on me.

Outside of the series, Rudd continues to take on new work. She recently voiced Marcille Donato in the English dub of Delicious in Dungeon. She is also set to appear in the upcoming film Whalefall. Many viewers also know her from the Fear Street movies, where she played both Cindy and Abigail Berman.

The returning cast includes Iñaki Godoy as Luffy and Mackenyu as Zoro, along with Jacob Romero and Taz Skylar. New cast members joining this season include Joe Manganiello, Katey Sagal, and David Dastmalchian.

The special theatrical release will show the first two episodes in cinemas across several countries starting March 10. Production for future episodes has taken place in Cape Town to capture the scale needed for the story’s next locations.

Netflix has already confirmed that work on a third season is underway, with Oda still closely involved to guide the direction of the adaptation.

The live-action series seems to be growing more confident as it moves forward. The bigger story arcs and new characters could help it reach an even wider audience. What do you think about the direction of the show and the new cast additions? Share your thoughts in the comments.
