Netflix is giving fans even more reason to be excited about Little House on the Prairie. The streaming giant has renewed the series for a second season, months before the first episode even airs. The show is scheduled to premiere on July 9, bringing a fresh take on the beloved story of Laura Ingalls Wilder’s life on the American frontier.

Showrunner Rebecca Sonnenshine praised her team for their dedication. “We’re thrilled that Netflix is giving us the opportunity to continue the story even as we prepare for the world to see the first episodes this summer,” she said.

According to Sonnenshine, the cast and crew worked tirelessly to bring the 19th-century frontier to life, balancing historical authenticity with engaging drama. Netflix executives have also expressed enthusiasm about the series.

Jinny Howe, head of U.S. and Canada scripted series, said the streamer is confident in the show’s ability to capture audiences. “We are delighted to renew this beautiful reimagining ahead of its launch and believe the show’s spirit will connect with viewers looking for comfort programming,” Howe said.

The new adaptation blends survival stories with family drama, offering a modern take on a classic tale. It is part of Netflix’s growing lineup of emotionally grounded “feel-good” series, joining favorites like Virgin River and Sweet Magnolias.

The show aims to provide viewers with both adventure and warmth, giving audiences a story that is as inspiring as it is comforting. Alice Halsey stars as Laura Ingalls, the strong-willed young heroine at the center of the story.

She is joined by Skywalker Hughes as her older sister, Mary, while Luke Bracey and Crosby Fitzgerald play Pa and Ma Ingalls. Halsey, who gained recognition in Lessons in Chemistry and Days of Our Lives, transitions fully into her role as Laura after finishing her previous projects.

Luke Bracey has kept busy with recent roles in One True Love and is rumored to be involved in a sequel to Point Break. Crosby Fitzgerald has also gained attention, attending high-profile premieres like Crime 101 in Los Angeles. Together, the cast promises to bring depth and energy to the iconic family story.

The series was filmed in Winnipeg, Canada, with the region’s vast landscapes recreating the rugged beauty of the 1800s. Director Sarah Adina Smith worked to honor the original 1970s show while offering a contemporary lens on frontier life. She aimed to show both the challenges and triumphs of living in a time where every day was filled with uncertainty and resilience.

Netflix’s decision to renew the series before the first season even airs shows strong confidence in the project. Fans of the original show, as well as new viewers, can expect a rich mix of drama, heart, and adventure.

With a talented cast, a skilled production team, and a story that continues to resonate across generations, Little House on the Prairie is set to be one of the summer’s most anticipated premieres.
