Arnold Schwarzenegger Is Back as He Plans to Star in a Sequel To One of His Most Iconic Franchises
Arnold Schwarzenegger is gearing up to revisit some of his most legendary films from the 1980s. The action star is in talks to return for new entries in Predator, Commando, and Conan the Barbarian, franchises that helped define his career.
Though many fans immediately think of Schwarzenegger as the face of The Terminator, he has stated he’s finished with that series after reprising his role in 2015’s Terminator: Genisys and 2019’s Terminator: Dark Fate, which also reunited him with Linda Hamilton. Now, the star is shifting focus to other iconic franchises he helped make famous.
During his appearance at the Arnold Sports Festival in Ohio, Schwarzenegger shared updates on these projects. He revealed that he’s discussing a new Predator film with 20th Century Studios, which would be directed by Dan Trachtenberg. At the same time, scripts are reportedly in development for Commando 2 and a King Conan movie.
“They did an additional Predator and the director has been doing a great job of that. Now, he wants me to be in the next Predator. We’ve talked about it,” Schwarzenegger said, according to TheArnoldFans. “As a matter of fact, Fox studios has kind of rediscovered ‘Arnold.’ They’ve come to me and said, ‘We want you to do Predator, we just got a script for you to do Commando 2.’”
On the Conan project, Schwarzenegger shared that Mission: Impossible filmmaker Christopher McQuarrie will write and direct. He assured fans that while his role will be “age-appropriate,” he’ll “still go in there and kick some ass.” The story, based on Robert E. Howard’s original books, follows King Conan as he is forced out of his kingdom after ruling for 40 years, leading to battles filled with “madness, violence, magic and creatures and stuff like that.”
This news excites longtime fans who have followed Schwarzenegger’s career for decades. After stepping back from The Terminator, his return to these classic franchises feels like a homecoming for both the actor and audiences.
What do you think about Arnold returning to Predator, Commando, and Conan? Are you excited to see him back in action, or do you think some of these franchises are better left as classics? Share your thoughts in the comments.
