Colman Domingo Breaks Silence on Paris Jackson’s Comments About Michael Jackson Biopic
Colman Domingo is speaking about the conversation that happened last year involving the upcoming Michael Jackson biopic and Michael’s daughter, Paris Jackson. In a recent interview with WSJ Magazine, the actor shared that he hopes Paris will eventually appreciate the film and what the team tried to create.
He said, “I hope that she eventually loves the tribute that we made about her father.” Domingo plays Joe Jackson, the father of the legendary singer, in the movie directed by Antoine Fuqua.
The discussion around the film started back in September 2025 after comments Domingo made in an interview with People magazine. At the time, he said that Paris Jackson and her brother Prince were “very much in support of our film.”
Paris Jackson quickly responded online to clear things up. On her Instagram Stories, she explained that she had no real involvement in the project. She wrote, “[Colman Domingo], don’t be telling people I was ‘helpful’ on the set of a movie I had 0% involvement in lol that is so weird.”
She also shared that she had read an early version of the script and gave some feedback, but those notes were not used. In the end, she decided not to be part of the project and summed up her position by saying, “Not my monkeys, not my circus. God bless and God speed.”
During his recent interview with WSJ Magazine, Domingo said the situation was mostly a misunderstanding. He explained that his original comments were taken out of context. After the public exchange, he reached out to Paris privately through Instagram to explain what he meant.
According to Domingo, she replied with a heart emoji, which he took as a sign that there were no hard feelings between them. Domingo also said that everyone involved in the film wants to approach the Jackson family story with respect and care.
The movie Michael has already had a long road to completion. The production went through several reshoots and editing changes as the studio worked to finalize the film. The biopic stars Jaafar Jackson, the real-life nephew of Michael Jackson, making his feature film debut as the King of Pop.
The movie aims to tell the story of Michael Jackson’s rise to fame as well as the personal struggles that came with his career. The cast also includes Nia Long as Katherine Jackson, Miles Teller as music lawyer John Branca, and Kat Graham as Diana Ross.
Outside of this project, Colman Domingo remains one of the busiest actors in Hollywood. He recently received strong praise for his performances in Sing Sing and in the musical film The Color Purple.
Now he is also moving into directing. According to industry reports, he will direct a biopic about legendary singer Nat King Cole titled Unforgettable. Domingo is also helping write and produce the project.
With the release date getting closer, excitement around Michael continues to grow. The film is expected to attract a lot of attention when it premieres in theaters worldwide on April 24.
