Michael B. Jordan reached a major milestone in his career after winning the Oscar for Best Actor at the Academy Awards. The actor earned the award for his role in the supernatural film “Sinners,” where he plays twin brothers named Smoke and Stack.

The win is historic. Jordan is now the sixth Black actor to receive the Oscar for Best Actor. It was also his first nomination at the awards.

When his name was announced, fellow nominee Leonardo DiCaprio stood up to congratulate him and gave him a hug before Jordan made his way to the stage. The moment quickly became one of the most talked-about reactions of the night.

During his speech, Jordan spoke about the people who helped shape the path for actors like him.

“I stand here because of the people that came before me,” he said.

He then mentioned several well-known names in film history. Jordan thanked Sidney Poitier, Denzel Washington, Jamie Foxx, Forest Whitaker and Will Smith. He also spoke about Halle Berry, who remains the only Black woman to win the Oscar for Best Actress.

“To be amongst those giants, those greats, amongst my ancestors, amongst my guides… Thank you everybody in this room and everybody at home for supporting me over my career. I feel it. I know you guys want me to do well, and I want to do that because you guys bet on me. So thank you for keeping betting on me.”

Jordan also spoke about his family in the audience.

“Man, God is good. God is good,” he said. “Momma, what’s up? You know how I feel about my mother. And my father is here. Pops, where you at? My dad came from Ghana to be here.”

The actor also thanked director Ryan Coogler. The two have worked together many times, including on “Fruitvale Station,” “Creed,” “Black Panther,” and “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.”

“You’re an amazing, amazing person,” Jordan said. “I’m so honored to call you a collaborator and a friend. You gave me the opportunity and space for me to be seen. I love you too, bro.”

“Sinners” takes place in the early 1900s and follows twin brothers who return home and start a juke joint, only to face a dark supernatural threat. The film performed strongly in theaters and earned several nominations during awards season. It was nominated for 16 Oscars and ended the night with four wins.

Jordan closed his speech by thanking fans who supported the movie.

“Everybody at home who supported ‘Sinners’ and went to see the movie once, twice, three, four times… thank you,” he said.

This moment shows how important recognition and representation are in the film industry. Jordan’s speech was simple but meaningful because he focused on the people who helped open doors before him. The hug from DiCaprio also showed respect between actors competing for the same award. It was a strong moment at the Oscars and one many viewers will remember.
