The 98th Academy Awards had plenty of glamorous moments, but Mckenna Grace managed to bring something a little unexpected to the red carpet. The actress attended the ceremony on March 15 at the Dolby Theatre with her partner and co-star Mason Thames, and during interviews, she revealed a surprising detail about what she had tucked inside her dress pockets.

While speaking with Entertainment Tonight, Grace shared that she had brought Pokémon cards with her to the event. She said the idea came up while she was talking with Thames earlier in the evening. “So, Mason and I were talking, and I was like, ‘I’m really into Pokémon cards. I want to try and be the first person to open Pokémon cards at the Oscars,’” she explained.

Grace even admitted that she had already started the plan by handing Thames a card before the ceremony began. The playful moment quickly caught people’s attention, since trading cards are not something you usually see at one of Hollywood’s most formal events.

When asked if she would trade any of the cards with other fans at the Oscars, she joked that she might keep them to herself. “Maybe, we’ll see,” she said with a smile. “I might keep them for myself.”

Her fun hobby became a talking point during the night, but her outfit also drew attention. Grace wore a soft pink gown designed by Vera Wang. The dress featured a fitted bodice and a long, dramatic train.

The style was inspired by the famous pink silk gown Gwyneth Paltrow wore when she won an Oscar in 1999. Grace completed the look with a sparkling diamond necklace and styled her hair in a classic bun.

The evening also highlighted her professional connection with Mason Thames. The two recently worked together on the film Regretting You, which is based on the bestselling novel by Colleen Hoover.

The story allowed them to play a romantic storyline on screen. Grace said working with Thames was a great experience because they have known each other for many years. Her appearance at the Oscars came during a very busy time in her career.

Just days before the ceremony, she appeared in the drama Slanted, which had recently arrived in theaters. She is also part of the cast of the horror sequel Scream 7. Another big project on her schedule is a new live-action Scooby-Doo series being developed for Netflix. Grace will play the role of Daphne Blake in the show.

Meanwhile, Thames is also preparing for his next major film appearance. He will return in The Black Phone 2, the sequel to the horror movie that helped launch his career. Because both actors have several projects coming out, fans have started paying close attention to them as a couple, both on screen and in real life.

Their shared success in the entertainment industry has made them a popular duo among younger audiences. Even with a packed schedule filled with filming and promotions, Grace continues to stay devoted to her Pokémon card hobby.

She has previously said that she keeps four binders full of cards and organizes them by rarity. She has also mentioned that Dragonair is her favorite Pokémon character. Her appearance at the Oscars showed that she enjoys bringing her personal interests with her wherever she goes.

Whether she is acting in major films, preparing for new television roles, or attending Hollywood’s biggest events, Grace seems to find a way to keep things fun and a little unexpected.
