While most stars on the Oscars red carpet went for classic ballgowns and soft pastel colors, Lisa Rinna took a very different approach. The 62-year-old actress and reality star attended the Elton John AIDS Foundation’s Academy Awards Viewing Party wearing a dress made entirely of human hair.

The gown used 11 pounds of dark brown hair and was designed by Christian Cowan in collaboration with TRESemmé. It took a team of 16 people about 152 hours to put the dress together.

The dress had a structured corset base, with layers of hair flowing down in different lengths, making the hair the main focus of the outfit instead of just an accent. Designer Christian Cowan told reporters that the dress was meant to show that high-quality hair products can create couture-level looks.

“The hair is not the finishing touch of this look—it is the look,” he said. He also added that the design celebrated Rinna’s own beauty and her history with iconic hairstyles. “I wanted to celebrate the beauty of Lisa. She’s a tour de force. She’s so known for her iconic hair, so it felt fun to play with that,” he explained.

Rinna styled her hair in an extra-voluminous version of her signature spiky shag so it could hold up against the dramatic dress. Her stylist, Justine Marjan, added extra volume to balance the sculptural gown.

She also wore a 41-carat diamond collar necklace and other multi-carat diamond jewelry from De Beers London to complete the look. Since leaving The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills in 2022, Rinna has been growing her presence in the fashion world.

Earlier this year, she appeared at Paris Haute Couture Week, opening the show for Germanier and attending other high-profile events like Stéphane Rolland. Her move from reality TV to fashion runways has surprised many and cemented her status as a style influencer, according to sources.

Fans can also catch her on the fourth season of the Peacock series The Traitors. Earlier this year, she released her memoir, You Better Believe I’m Gonna Talk About It, which gives a candid look at her career in Hollywood, her relationships, and her reality TV experience.

She also hosts the podcast Let’s Not Talk About the Husband with her husband, Harry Hamlin, sharing stories from their life in Beverly Hills. Rinna’s other business ventures, including Rinna Beauty and Rinna Wines, continue to do well.
