Kevin Spacey Reaches Confidential Deal With Sexual Assault Accusers Ahead of London Trial
Kevin Spacey has reached an out-of-court settlement with three men who had filed s**** assault lawsuits against him, according to BBC News. The civil trial that was scheduled for October at the High Court in London has now been put on hold following the agreement.
The accusations date back to between 2000 and 2013 and came from three separate men who claim the former House of Cards actor assaulted them. Spacey, who was the artistic director of London’s Old Vic theatre from 2004 to 2013, has consistently denied the allegations.
One accuser said Spacey “deliberately assaulted” him on 12 different occasions between 2000 and 2005. Another alleged that an assault in 2008 caused him both “psychiatric damage and financial loss.” That man first filed a lawsuit in 2022, but the case was paused when criminal charges were brought against Spacey. The actor was later acquitted of nine sexual offense charges in a separate London trial in July 2023.
Ruari Cannon, one of the accusers, waived his right to anonymity and appeared in the 2024 Channel 4 documentary Spacey Unmasked. Cannon, who had performed in Sweet Bird of Youth at the Old Vic in 2013, claims Spacey groped him at a party after the play’s press night. Cannon described the actor as moving “like a shark” and then switching “into press mode” in front of the cameras. Spacey called the allegation “ridiculous and it never happened.”
After the documentary aired, Spacey wrote on X: “Each time I have been given the time and a proper forum to defend myself, the allegations have failed under scrutiny and I have been exonerated.” While he has admitted to “being too handsy,” he insists he has never groped anyone.
It seems Spacey is attempting to close this chapter quietly, but the claims and the high-profile nature of his past trials mean public attention is unlikely to fade anytime soon.
