A top Netflix executive is pushing back against rumors about tension between the company and Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. Speaking at the “Next on Netflix” event on March 18, Chief Content Officer Bela Bajaria made it clear that reports about a falling out are not accurate.

According to Bajaria, a lot of the headlines surrounding the couple’s deal with Netflix have been misleading. “Don’t believe whatever you read,” she said during the event. “Maybe we should all do a little fact-checking.”

Her comments were aimed at claims that Netflix was caught off guard by major moments like the couple’s interview with Oprah Winfrey or Prince Harry’s memoir. Bajaria suggested that those stories don’t reflect what actually happened behind the scenes.

She explained that the partnership between Netflix and Archewell Productions is still active and moving forward. “We have movies in development with them,” Bajaria confirmed, adding that there are still projects being worked on for the platform.

Looking back, she also highlighted the success of their previous collaboration. “Had an amazing documentary with them,” she said, referring to the couple’s docuseries, which became one of Netflix’s biggest documentary releases.

Bajaria noted that while the couple often attracts attention in the media, their deal is handled like any other major agreement in Hollywood. “Deals come and go all the time,” she explained. “There are deals that are deals we don’t renew.” Her point was that changes in partnerships are normal in the entertainment industry and not always a sign of conflict.

She also suggested that the intense public interest in Harry and Meghan can turn routine business decisions into bigger stories than they really are. Both Netflix and representatives for the couple have denied the rumors of a dispute.

A spokesperson for the Duke and Duchess also addressed the situation, saying Netflix was aware of all their outside projects from the beginning. They explained that legal teams on both sides have been involved throughout the partnership.

“Netflix and Archewell had legal counsel involved to oversee the evolution of the deal, as is common practice for any deal changes in Hollywood,” the representative said. The comments come shortly after Meghan announced that her lifestyle brand, As ever, is ending its specific partnership with Netflix.

Even so, Bajaria’s statements make it clear that the overall relationship between the streaming platform and the couple is still in place despite all of the rumours and the headlines.
