Golf legend Tiger Woods was released on bail after being arrested in Florida for driving under the influence. The Martin County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that Woods, 50, was also charged with property damage and refusing to take a lawful test following a crash on Jupiter Island.

According to Sheriff John Budensiek, Woods rolled his Land Rover after hitting a truck while reportedly trying to pass it at a high speed. No one was hurt, and Woods had to crawl out of the passenger side of the vehicle.

“Mr Woods did exemplify signs of impairment,” Budensiek said. He added that officers conducted several roadside tests and considered Woods’ past injuries and surgeries. Woods passed a breathalyser with “triple zeros” but refused a urine test. “He has a right to refuse that test. There is a statute which he will be charged with for refusing to take that test,” Budensiek said.

The crash happened just before 2 p.m. local time on Beach Road. Budensiek said investigators were not suspicious that alcohol was involved. “We will never get definitive results as to what he was impaired on at the time of the crash,” he added.

US President Donald Trump commented, saying, “I feel so badly. He has got some difficulty. There was an accident. That’s all I know. He’s a very close friend of mine. He’s an amazing person—an amazing man.” The charges against Woods are misdemeanors, not felonies.

This incident adds to a history of off-course troubles for Woods. He has been recovering from serious injuries sustained in a 2021 car crash and also ruptured his Achilles tendon in March 2025, followed by back surgery in October.

Earlier incidents include a 2009 crash outside his home and a 2017 episode where he was found slumped at the wheel of his car with legal medications and marijuana in his system. He later pleaded guilty to reckless driving and served a year of probation.

Woods has been trying to return to competitive golf. He recently played in the TGL indoor league finals, his first competitive golf since July 2024, and has not ruled out playing in next month’s Masters at Augusta National, where he has five career wins. However, his recent crash in Florida makes his participation increasingly uncertain.

This is a serious setback for Woods as he works to recover and return to top-level golf. Even legends face challenges off the field, and this reminds us that injuries and life events can have lasting effects. What do you think about Woods’ situation and his chances at the Masters?
