‘The Lord of the Rings’ Gets a New Aragorn as Director Moves Forward With Major Casting Change

Director Andy Serkis has confirmed that the team behind The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum is searching for a new actor to play Aragorn. The update comes directly from Serkis, who is leading the project and returning as Gollum.

Viggo Mortensen, who played Aragorn in the original trilogy, will not be coming back. At 67, he is no longer the right fit for the younger version of the character that this story needs. The film is set before the events of The Fellowship of the Ring, so the studio wants someone younger to take on the role.

During the interview, the host brought up rumors that actor Leo Woodall could be involved. Wood reacted by pointing out how challenging the role would be, saying, “Those are tough boots [to fill], man. That is tough. I can’t imagine. But that’s gonna be great.”
