Sad news has come from the world of television and film, as Michael Patrick, known for his work in Game of Thrones and Blue Lights, has died at the age of 35. The news was shared by his wife, Naomi Sheehan, who posted the announcement on Instagram on April 8.

In her message, she spoke openly about her grief and how much he meant to their family. She described him as “a titan of a ginger haired man” and said they are “broken-hearted” after losing him. Her post has since been widely shared, with many fans and people from the industry sending support and kind messages.

Patrick had been dealing with motor neurone disease for several years. He was diagnosed in February 2023, and the illness slowly affected his body over time. Motor neurone disease is known to impact basic functions like walking, talking, and even breathing, making everyday life harder as it progresses.

Even with all of this, Sheehan said he never stopped living fully. She wrote, “He lived a life as full as any human can live,” and remembered his energy and personality. She also mentioned his “joy, abundance of spirit, infectious laughter,” which she said stayed with him through everything.

Patrick was a well-known name in Northern Ireland’s creative scene. Many people knew him not just as an actor, but also as a writer. Along with his role in Game of Thrones, he appeared in shows like This Town and continued to build a strong career on screen and on stage.

His work did not go unnoticed. In January 2025, he received the Judges’ Award at the The Stage Awards, which recognized his talent and his determination. Around the same time, he also appeared in the German TV film Mordlichtern Tod auf den Faroe Islands, which became one of his final roles.

During the last year of his life, Patrick stayed active in any way he could. He continued doing voice work and remained involved with the Lyric Theatre Belfast, a place that meant a lot to him. While his health made long-term filming difficult, he still found ways to stay creative and connected to his work.

His passing has left a deep impact on fans, friends, and colleagues. Many are now remembering not just his roles, but also the kind of person he was behind the scenes.
