Valerie Perrine ‘Superman’ Actress’ Official Cause of Death Reportedly Revealed
Information from People magazine and the Los Angeles Department of Health has confirmed details about the death of actress Valerie Perrine, who passed away at the age of 82.
Her death certificate lists acute cardiopulmonary arrest as the immediate cause. This condition is also known as sudden cardiac arrest. Medical records further state that Parkinson’s disease was the underlying illness that led to her death. Dementia was also noted as a contributing factor.
Perrine had been living with Parkinson’s disease since 2015. The condition had a major impact on her health in her later years.
News of her passing was first shared publicly by her longtime friend Stacey Souther. In a message posted on social media, he described her final years and paid tribute to her character and strength. He said, “It is with deep sadness that I share the heartbreaking news that Valerie has passed away.” He added, “She faced Parkinson’s disease with incredible courage and compassion, never once complaining. She was a true inspiration who lived life to the fullest — and what a magnificent life it was.” He also wrote, “The world feels less beautiful without her in it. I love you, Valerie. I’ll see you on the other side.”
Perrine was widely known for her work in film and television. One of her most recognized roles came in the 1974 film “Lenny,” where she played a character in the biographical story of comedian Lenny Bruce. That performance earned her an Academy Award nomination.
She later became familiar to many audiences for her role in the “Superman” film series, starting in 1978, where she appeared as a partner of Lex Luthor and returned for the sequel in 1980.
Beyond films, she worked in television for many years. Her credits included appearances in series such as “ER,” “Nash Bridges,” and a storyline in “As the World Turns.” She also appeared in the 2000 film “What Women Want.”
Her earlier breakthrough in acting came in the early 1970s with “Slaughterhouse-Five,” which helped launch her long career across film and television.
Perrine’s death marks the end of a career that stretched over decades and included a wide range of roles across Hollywood productions.
Her passing also sparked reflection from fans and colleagues who remembered her both for her performances and her resilience during her illness.
