According to reports from entertainment industry updates, Peacock has decided not to continue its spy thriller series The Copenhagen Test after its first season. The show starred Simu Liu and Melissa Barrera and premiered as an eight-episode run in late December.

Even though the series had a strong concept and a recognizable cast, it will not be returning for a second season. Data from audience and review platforms showed a mixed but generally positive response.

The series held around a 71 percent critic score and roughly an 80 percent audience rating on Rotten Tomatoes. However, viewership trends reportedly dropped after the first week, with the show not holding a steady position in streaming rankings.

The Copenhagen Test followed the story of Alexander Hale, played by Simu Liu. He is a Chinese-American intelligence analyst who discovers that his mind has been hacked. Unknown attackers are able to see and hear everything he experiences, forcing him into a constant state of pressure and control.

In the story, Hale must figure out who is behind the breach while also proving that he can still be trusted by his agency. The situation becomes more intense as he tries to survive a 24-hour window where every move matters.

Melissa Barrera played a key role as a character close to Hale who is secretly reporting his actions back to headquarters. This added another layer of tension to the storyline, as trust between characters constantly shifts.

Despite the cancellation, both lead actors have quickly moved into new projects. Simu Liu is currently performing in the comedy Oh, Mary! at the Lyceum Theatre in New York. He plays the role of Mary’s Teacher, and his run continues through April 21.

Melissa Barrera is also active on stage, currently appearing in Titanique, a musical parody that reimagines the Titanic story through a comedic and musical lens inspired by Céline Dion’s music. The production recently marked its official Broadway opening after a successful off-Broadway run.

Outside of the theater, both actors continue to have busy screen careers. Simu Liu is set to return as Shang-Chi in the upcoming Marvel film Avengers: Doomsday, which is scheduled for release later this year. Melissa Barrera is also attached to several upcoming independent film projects that are currently in development.
