Prime Video has decided to end Gen V after two seasons, bringing an early close to the young adult spinoff set in the same universe as The Boys. The update comes several months after the second season aired, and according to industry reports, the decision was not a surprise.

The show was set at a college for young superheroes and followed a group of students learning to control their powers. It quickly became part of the larger story connected to The Boys, which is also approaching its final season.

Even though Gen V is ending, its characters will not disappear completely. The shared storyline across the franchise means some of them are already appearing in the latest season of The Boys. This crossover approach is expected to continue as new projects move forward.

Executive producers Eric Kripke and Evan Goldberg confirmed that the story will continue in other ways. They said, “While we wish we could keep the party going another season at Godolkin, we’re committed to continuing the Gen V characters’ stories in The Boys Season 5 and other VCU projects on the horizon. You’ll see them again.”

The wider franchise is still expanding. A new spinoff titled Vought Rising is already planned and is expected to arrive in 2027. Another project, The Boys: Mexico, is also in development.

Gen V had a strong start when it first launched and was renewed early for a second season. However, the production faced serious challenges after the death of actor Chance Perdomo in 2024, which delayed filming and affected the direction of the show.

The cast of the second season included Jaz Sinclair, Lizze Broadway, Maddie Phillips, London Thor, Derek Luh, Asa Germann, Sean Patrick Thomas, and Hamish Linklater. Around the same time, Germann signed on to another series, which also pointed to changes ahead.

Behind the scenes, Michele Fazekas led the show as showrunner, with a large group of executive producers involved, including Seth Rogen and others connected to the franchise.

According to reports, all shows in this universe are produced by Sony Pictures Television and Amazon MGM Studios, working together with several production companies tied to the creators.

Ending Gen V this early feels like a missed chance, especially since it had started to build its own identity within the franchise. At the same time, continuing the story through other shows could help keep things connected instead of splitting the audience. What do you think about the decision to cancel Gen V? Should it have continued, or is this the right move for the franchise? Share your thoughts in the comments.
